Dr RD Choudhury gets nat�l fellowship for cultural research

GUWAHATI, Oct 6 - The Union Ministry of Culture has awarded the prestigious Rabindra Nath Tagore National Fellowship for Cultural Research to Dr Rabin Dev Choudhury, former Director General of the National Museum, Vice Chancellor of the National Museum Institute, New Delhi, and retired professor of Tezpur University.

His topic of research will be �Cataloguing and documentation of the objects of museums of Assam and historical, cultural and social study on them,� according to a press release issued here today.

The Assam State Museum has a good number of objects to be catalogued and documented. Moreover, there are district museums at Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Mangaldai, Tezpur, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Haflong, Hamreng, Diphu, Nagaon and Bardowa (Site Museum). The Purbavarati Museum at Nalbari, which has a large number of antiques and also a catalogue, will have to be given a new lease of life. The museum objects of historical and antiquarian studies will also be under this project, as well as the museums in colleges and universities, the release stated.
