Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami felicitated

NORTH GUWAHATI, June 10 � The 56th birthday of Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami, a widely respected Vaishnavite scholar, poet and litterateur and religious preacher, was celebrated here at the Satra branch premises with a day-long programme on June 6 under the auspices of �Namjagya Samiti� and �Gobinda Udyan Samiti�. The members of the North Guwahati Press Club arranged to plant 56 saplings to mark the occasion. A flower-garden entitled �Gobinda Puspa Ydyan� was also inaugurated by the Satradhikar to mark the event.

To mark the day, the organisers of the function called up 56 distinguished persons to be publicly felicitated by the Satradhikar. These persons then lit 56 earthen lamps beside the Satra Namghar.

In the open public meeting held on the occasion, former judge of the Supreme Court, Dr Mukundakam Sarmah, who was later felicitated with other guests, acted as the chief guest of the function. The Satradhikar, who was felicitated on his birthday by several individuals and representatives of various organisations from various parts of the State, named the felicitation function of 56 individuals of his choice as �Jivonor bakhar potowa dhou�. In his address, he urged the people to fight the battle of life manfully and with certain principles, despite various constraints, till the goal is reached. The invited guests who were felicitated by the religious preacher included Rajmedhi Bhabendra Nath Sarmah, attorney general Atul Buragohain, Dilip Barthakur, Dr Dinesh Baishya, fomer principal Manindra Kumar Boruah, ex-professor and journalist Bhairab Sarmah, Khirod Kumari Boruah (93), former principal Tilok Sarmah, Robin Bhuyan, Bedabrata Mishra, Rabin Boruah, Keshab Talukdar, artiste Ganesh Chakroborty etc.

Later, a few felicitated invitees reciprocated their feelings. The function which continued till the evening was made enjoyable by the participation of several artistes who presented songs and dances befitting the occasion.
