Dr Moidul Islam Bora award to Nanda Singh

SIVASAGAR, Sept 24 - The Dr Moidul Islam Bora Sahitya Award was conferred on noted litterateur and poet Nanda Singh Borkola on Tuesday. The award distribution ceremony was jointly organised by the Arunuday Sahitya Sabha and the Dr Moidul Islam Bora Smriti Rakhya Samiti.

Speaking on the occasion, former president of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, Imran Shah said, � A piece of literature like Baharistan Gaybi of Dr Moidul Islam Bora has not been created in Assamese literature since 1936.�

State Education Minister Sarat Borkotoky said that Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi would take steps to grant government status to the award and reserve a seat in a university in Dr Moidul Islam Bora�s name.

Receiving the award, Nanda Singh said, �Dr Moidul Islam Bora made an effort to give the Assamese community, a direction towards change. There is a difference between power and talent. But if power and talent get united, we can make a beautiful society.� Singh also stressed the need of education in the mother tongue.

The award ceremony was also attended by SP Bibekenanda Das, Zila Parishad president Santana Buragohain and noted poet Prema Gogoi.
