Dr Moidul Islam Bora Award conferred on Mayur Bora

SIVASAGAR, Sept 25 - Noted writer Mayur Bora was conferred the Dr Moidul Islam Bora Literary Award 2018 by the Dr Moidul Islam Bora Smriti Rakshya Samity in association with Rongpurjyoti Club here on Saturday.

Receiving the award, Mayur Bora said that he was moved to receive an award in the name of a stalwart of Assamese literature and hence felt all the more humble and responsible towards the people of the State. Dr Moidul Islam Bora was a unique personality whom Jinnah wanted to wean away from the mainstream Assamese towards the Muslim League, but Dr Bora politely refused his offer saying that he was a secular Assamese first and would remain so ever after.

�Today�s ungrateful Assamese people have forgotten about those secular souls that formed the base of our patriotic tradition,� he said adding that Dr Moidul Islam Bora tried his best to serve the cause of the Assamese even while he was the in charge Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University. Addressing the gathering, Tapan Gogoi, Minister of State for Power and PWD said that Dr Moidul Islam Bora was a true patriot who took pains to glorify Assamese language and culture. Prema Gogoi, former president, Rongpurjyoti Sahitya Sabha, presided over the meeting.
