GUWAHATI, March 6 � Educationist Dr Hitesh Deka has been selected as the Vice Chancellor of the Krishnakanta Handique State Open University.
He will succeed Prof Srinath Barua and assume charge on March 11.
Dr Deka has been the Principal of KC Das Commerce College for 15 years and is credited with having transformed the college into a vibrant institution.
Talking to The Assam Tribune, Dr Deka said that his priority would be to transform the KK Handique varsity into a centre of excellence.
�I believe that a university is much more than an educational institution. It is actually a social organisation and can play a key role on shaping the path of society. As VC, my thrust will be on improving on the qualitative aspects of the open university which has already witnessed commendable expansion in the State,� he said.
Dr Deka, who is also an author, is a member of Gauhati University�s Executive Council, besides being a Governor-nominated member of the selection committee of Dibrugarh University.
