GUWAHATI, Dec 28 - Well-known writer and literary critic Gobinda Prasad Sarma will receive the Preeti Barua Literary Award, 2019-2020.
The Assam Lekhika Sanstha and the Preeti Barua- Prasanta Kumar Barua Sowarani Samiti jointly instituted this award in 2017 to perpetuate the memory of the late Preeti Barua, well-known writer and founder president of the Lekhika Sanstha.
The award carries a citation, selected books and Rs 50,000 in cash. Dr Sarma was selected for this award for his signal contribution to Assamese literature in areas as diverse as literary criticism, fiction and feminist studies. Dr Sarma is one of those critics who have been instrumental in reassessing Assamese literary works, both canonical and contemporary, using tools and methods developed in the western critical tradition. The award will be given to him in early January.
