GUWAHATI, May 14 - An evening in the memory of Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia titled �Katha Sandhiya� was organised recently by Natyam, an amateur theatre group at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai, a press release stated.
The programme started with ceremonial garlanding on a portrait of Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia followed by floral homage by all present.
At the outset, Dr Rabindra Nath Borthakur, president of Natyam outlined the aims, objectives and future plans of Natyam, which revolves around staging and development of a meaningful conversation around socially relevant drama in their new home away from home.
In addition, Natyam also resolves to conduct a series of commemorative programmes based on the immense contribution of various stalwarts in arts, culture and literature with regard to Assam.
As a first step in this journey, the programme under reference was organised to discuss and deliberate on the life and works of a beloved son of Assam, Dr Bhabendra Nath Saikia, focusing mainly on his contribution to Assamese literature, drama and cinema.
The first of the two speakers, Jadav Sarmah shared his insights on Saikia�s methodology, sharp observation of the contemporary society and unmatched analytical viewpoint. Students from Assam will forever benefit from his works towards formulation and publication of text books in Assamese language which were theretofore unavailable.
Tarun Chandra Hazarika continued the discussion with a synopsis on Saikia�s feature films and dramas by highlighting the principal characters, his story-telling style and cinematic narrative. A visual presentation containing different anecdotes, quotes and visuals related to the theme was presented by Pranjal Madhab Bilardawa, secretary of Natyam, which aided the conversation and kept the audience thoroughly engaged.
The evening provided fertile ground for the upcoming generation to engage with Assamese art and culture outside the state. Natyam promises to tirelessly make efforts to keep such conversations going, the release concluded.
