SUALKUCHI, March 8 � Doul Mahotsav was celebrated with a three-day colourful programme from March 4 to 6 at Iswar Sri Sri Hati Satra.
The programme began with flag hoisting by Bhagneswar Mahanta, Burah Satradhikar on March 4. The main programmes included illumination of hundreds of earthen jars, �Krishna Nitya� participated by children of the age-group 5 to 8, cracking of firecrackers in the evening etc. Dhiren Baruah, chairman, Guwahati Municipal Development Authority inaugurated the cracking fireworks programmes. Dr Dipesh Ch Bhagabati, Principal, SBMS College released the souvenir Range Phagu Khele published on the occasion. Ajay Dutta, former MLA also addresed the function. At 9 pm, Puzar phul a social drama was staged.
On the second day, besides naam prasanga, the Holi Geet Samaroh and cultural meet drew the attention of the people. Bharat Baishya, freedom fighter inaugurated the stage while Kanak Ch Mahanta, retired teacher illuminated a jar to mark the beginning of the Holi Geet Samaroh.
On the concluding day, the bamboo breaking competition for men and women was held in the afternoon. Dr Himanta Biswa Sarmah, MLA inaugurated the competition. The open meeting was held with Tarun Ch Das, vice president, Doul Mahotsav Udjapan Samiti, Iswar Sri Sri Hati Satra in the chair. Kuladhar Choudhuri, president, Mahapurushiya Dharmalochani Sabha, Sri Sri Sankardev Mandir attended the meeting as special invitee.
