Doul Mahotsav at Doul Govinda from today

NORTH GUWAHATI, March 19 - Hectic preparations are on for Doul Mahotsav at the renowned Doul Govinda Temple at the historically renowned Rajaduar area with a five-day long schedule beginning from tomorrow. Every year, these celebrations draw the attention of thousands of devotees from various parts of the State.

Tomorrow, admist all religious rituals, meshdah with the deity of Lord Govinda would be performed in the evening (7:30 pm) near the bank of the mighty Brahmaputra with traditional religious rituals-admist namkirtan. After adhibash, Lord Govinda would be seated on the �doul�.

On March 21, the programme will commence in the morning at 6:15am with the �mahasnan� of Lord Govinda which will be followed by namprasanga by devotees, recital of Kirtan and Bhagavat by women devotees hailing from various places. After the nagaranam performance which will be performed by two invited groups � led by Sarbeshwar Kalita (Nalbari) and Balen Saikia (Darrang), there would be an offering of gulal (aabir) to Lord Govinda with rituals.

This would be followed by hom which again would be followed with the distribution of bhog followed by picturesque cultural functions in the evening hours.

Similar programmes would begin at 6:30am on March 22 and 23 also.

On the concluding day, the programme will begin will the holy dip of Lord Govinda by devotees, recital of holy Bhagavat, worshipping of Lord Govinda, namprasanga by women, followed by closure of worshipping. After distribution of prasad, there would be a colourful religious procession which is to be participated by thousands of devotees hailing from various places with Lord Govinda in a decorated chariot drawn by devotees.

At 6:45 pm, after display of picturesque fireworks, there would be �Panchaprasar Puja� to effect the ascending of �Manikut� by the Lord. At night, there would be jatrabhinoy which is to be performed by the artists of Kahi Ganga Natya Samaj, Mirza.
