Doomdooma remembers Bard of the Brahmaputra

DOOMDOOMA, Nov 7 - Rich tributes were paid to Sudhakantha Dr Bhupen Hazarika on his fifth death anniversary on Saturday in and around Doomdooma.

The Doomdooma unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha paid tributes to Bhupenda in its office premises. The president of the unit Arjun Baruah garlanded the portrait of Sudhakantha to start the programme. The retired Principal of Hoonlal HS School here, Jhikananda Borgohain planted a sapling in the Sahitya Sabha Bhawan campus on the occasion. Sudhakantha�s songs, recitation etc were performed by a number of artistes. The programme was anchored by the secretary of the Doomdooma unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha, Nityananda Das.

Bhupenda was also remembered by the teachers and students of Doomdooma College. The Principal of the college, Dr Prakashjyoti Borthakur lit an earthen lamp in front of Sudhakantha�s portrait. Dr Rinjumoni Sharma, an Associate Professor of the college delivered a speech on Sudhakantha�s life and works while professors of the college Madhurjyya Mahanta and Swapna Borah performed songs of Bhupenda and Shibajit Dutta and Bidisha Mahanta recited poems. The programme was anchored by Professor Deepak Ranjan Baruah.

On the other hand, an NGO named Satirtha Mancha organised a programme in collaboration with the Rupai unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha at Rupai Sahitya Sabha Bhawan where rich tributes were paid to Dr Hazarika. Sudhakantha was also remembered on his fifth death anniversary at Learners� High School and Doomdooma Jatiya Vidyalaya, besides several other educational institutions here.

Rich tributes were also paid to Sudhakantha at his birthplace Sadiya by several organisations and educational institutions.
