Doomdooma rallies against proposed Citizenship Bill

By Correspondent

DOOMDOOMA, June 17 - A massive congregation of people under the aegis of various organisations of Doomdooma Circle was held at Doomdooma Town Field today to lodge protest against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016.

Surajit Moran, president of AJYCPs Tinsukia district committee presided over the meeting and Deben Deka, secretary of Doomdooma unit of Asam Sahitya Sabha explained the objective of the meeting.

Addressing the meeting as chief guest, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for their failure in fulfilling their promises made before the election. He came down heavily against the Modi-led Central Government for its policies against the interest of Assam as well as the North East.

Gogoi criticised Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for his failure in taking bold steps against the Bill. He also made it clear that Assam is already overburdened with illegal immigrants and it can no longer take the burden of more foreigners.

Gogoi urged the people to become united against this move of the Government. He also urged them to oppose the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 as well as amendment of three other Acts related to citizenship of the country, like Passport and Visa Acts etc. which would crush the identity of the Assamese as an independent nation in the near future.

The Gana Samabesh was also addressed by AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai, ATTSA assistant secretary Dhiraj Gowala and AMSU president Arunjyoti Moran. They vehemently opposed the proposed Bill. Several thousand people attended todays meeting.
