DoNER creates camp secretariat for region

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 The Union Ministry for Development of NE Region (DoNER) has created a camp secretariat to operate from each of the NE States on rotational basis. The people of the NE region need not travel to New Delhi; New Delhi will travel to their respective States, said Union Minister of State (Independent) for DoNER Dr Jitendra Singh. He was addressing the inaugural function of the two-day Assam Water Conference organised by the States Water Resources Department (WRD) here today.

The camp secretariat visited Manipur a few days back and it is now in Arunachal Pradesh, he apprised.

Moreover, eight Union Ministers are touring the region in a fortnight to assess their problems and to find out solutions to these problems, he said.

The DoNER Ministry has also started interacting with the 39 MPs of the NE region. The officers of the NE region, based in New Delhi, have also been consulted by the Ministry, he said.

On March 15, the Ministry is organising a one-day event of dance and songs of the region in New Delhi and in April it is hosting an NE Festival in the National Capital to showcase the region. It is expected the festival would be able to attract the filmmakers of the country to use the regions locales for shooting their films, said the Minister.
