By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Sept 6 - The Gauhati University Teachers Association (GUTA) donated a sum of Rs 3.18 lakh to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund recently. The fund was collected out of the donations of the regular faculty members of the university. The demand draft was handed over to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at his office by GUTA president Prof Archana Sarma along with a few representatives of the association.

The GUTA team had also a discussion with the Chief Minister on the flood situation of Assam, where the GUTA president gave a summary of the discussions held at a seminar on recent floods in Assam organised by GUTA on August 18 this year. She mentioned the major suggestions emerging out of the discussions, particularly emphasising the urgent necessity of a flood management policy for the State that can address the problem from both the macro and the micro perspectives, acting throughout the year instead of taking measures only during the flood season.

The Chief Minister spoke in an erudite, informative and sensitive manner on the issue of flood. He also highlighted the government initiatives to tackle the issue including the details about the proposed dredging of the River Brahmaputra.

The Chief Minister also assured of further consultation on the issue with the Gauhati University for the purpose of alleviating the problem and to minimise the sufferings of the people.
