LUMDING, July 3 � July 1 is observed as the Doctor�s Day every year in memory of Bharat Ratna awardee Dr BC Roy who was the doyen of the medical profession in India, said a press release issued by the Lumding branch of the IMA.
In this connection, a press conference was arranged by doctors under the aegis of the Lumding branch of the IMA. Dr R Bhattacharjee, president, and Dr Amitava Dey, honorary secretary of the Lumding IMA unit, urged all doctors to devote 10 per cent of their time to community service.
A meeting was held on the Lumding State Hospital premises in which many physicians, nurses, dignitaries and media persons were present. They also organised a daylong programme of medical activities.
A new TB unit at the Lumding FRU was opened on the Doctor�s Day on Wednesday. NB Kushary, senior citizen, inaugurated the TB unit in the presence of a large gathering. Dr R Bhattacharjee, Deputy Superintendent of the hospital, stated the purpose behind opening the TB unit and thanked Dr AC Pator, Joint Director of Health Services, and Dr MR Mathabbar, DTO, for their contributions.
The Doctor�s Day was also observed at the Divisional Railway Hospital, Lumding. A daylong programme was held to mark the occasion. Doctors from Railway and State hospitals and other paramedical staff took part in the programme.
A health check-up camp was also organised at the Pensioners� Association office here in the morning hours. Altogether 73 patients were examined and treated for geriatric problems like hypertension, diabetes and cardiac disorders.
In the evening, a seminar was held. Dr BC Das, senior DMO, Health and Family Welfare, Lumding, spoke on the life of Dr BC Roy. Dr L Hmar, senior DMO, spoke about the Doctor�s Day. Dr Amitava Dey, secretary, IMA, Lumding branch, delivered a lecture on sexual abuse of children.
The Chief Medical Superintendent of NF Railway, Lumding, Dr DK Das urged the doctors to take inspiration from Dr BC Roy and show immense devotion and work hard.
