SILCHAR, Dec 10 - In a sensational move, Abdul Mukit Tapadar (50), a gynaecologist at the Karimganj Civil Hospital, who also runs a private nursing home
in the border town, was arrested by police for allegedly raping a patient on the delivery table.
According to Karimganj police, 24-year-old pregnant woman, a resident of Bilbari village in South Karimganj, was admitted to the Ashirwad Hospital and Research Centre in Karimganj on December 4.
Next day, the pregnant woman gave birth to a baby boy under the treatment of Dr Tapadar.
Interestingly, the woman�s husband lodged an FIR at the Karimganj Police Station alleging that Dr Tapadar on Thursday attempted to rape his wife with the excuse of medical examination in a separate room.
However, when she cried out for help, the doctor fled the spot, Das added. Later, the police arrested Tapadar from the nursing home.
According to Mahesh Sharma, in-charge Superintendent of Police of Karimganj, the accused doctor was produced before a local court on Sunday following interrogations and the court sent him to jail.
