Doctor refuses to join new posting

By Correspondent

GOALPARA, June 28 - When sufficient measures have been taken by the Health Department for reducing the overall infant as well as maternal mortality rate in the district, the people of Lakhipur and its outskirts are suffering for the want of a gynaecologist in their First Referral Unit (FRU) for a long time and most of the pregnant women, even in a serious condition have to commute to the 200-bed Goalpara Civil Hospital for getting deliveries done by doctors and skilled attendants here.

The matter was discussed at the District Health Society meeting recently and a resolution was adopted for the rationalisation of the existing posts of gynaecologists for overcoming the present shortage. As such a decision was taken and necessary instructions issued to Dr Musaur Rahman, M&HO-I (Gynae) of Goalpara Civil Hospital by the Joint Director of Health Services to attend duties at Lakhipur FRU with immediate effect vide letter no. GDHS/Esst/Dr/12/621 dated 4/5/16, while Dr AK Doley had already joined the FRU at Dudhnoi. But Dr Rahman refused to join the FRU at Lakhipur, preferring to perform duties at the Goalpara hospital. Again on the basis of instructions issued vide letter no. GDHS /Esstt/Dr/12/721 dated 27/05//16 by the Joint Director, the Superintendent of the Goalpara hospital conveyed to Dr Rahman, his instructions of not allowing him to perform duties at the Goalpara Civil hospital. But till today it is not known how Dr Musaur Rahman is continuing to attend to normal duties even though he was released by the Goalpara hospital authorities on June 5, 2016 and in spite of a great public demand for a gynaecologist, why didnt he attend to duty at Lakhipur FRU.
