By Correspondent

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, June 10 - Another doctor engaged in the frontline service in Lakhimpur district tested positive for COVID-19 today. This was informed by Dr HK Dutta, Joint Director (in-charge) of Health services in Lakhimpur district, on Wednesday.

Dr Nabajit Bora was posted at the COVID Special Hospital at Telahi in Panigaon, Lakhimpur. Three other medical personnel, engaged in the same hospital, also have been tested positive.

Speaking to this correspondent, Dr HK Dutta said that all the four, including the doctor, were present inside the hospital when quarantined inmates, coming from outside the State turned hooligans and dirtied the premise with spit on May 27.

The affected medical staff were inside when the quarantined inmates at Telahi Hospital broke the barricades and came outside the wards and dirtied the premise with their spit and sputum and Dr Bora was on duty that day, said Dr Dutta.

The other positive persons are Biswajeet Kuli, a pharmacist; Ashoke Tawe and Lalit Sonowal both 4th Grade employees.

All these four were kept in quarantine in a hotel in North Lakhimpur after seven days of their duty at Telahi hospital. All of them have been shifted to North Lakhimpur Civil Hospital, said Dr HK Dutta.

Earlier Dr Hashid Zaman, a doctor in-charge of the quarantine centre at OPD College, Panigaon, tested positive for COVID-19 on June 3.

The testing of COVID-19 positive of serving doctors and health workers infected by the unruly acts by quarantined inmates in hospitals have evoked strong resentment among the public here. However, no case has been registered against the trouble makers at Telahi COVID Hospital and OPD College quarantine centre.

Meanwhile, the total number of COVID-19 positive cases in Lakhimpur district has climbed up to 71. Eight of them have been discharged from hospitals so far and there are 63 active cases, said Dr Dutta.
