Do not give in to rumours, Lakhimpur DC to citizens

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, June 12 - A meeting was held in the office of the Deputy Commissioner here to discuss ways on checking rumours affecting citizens in the district.

The meeting was chaired by Lakhimpur DC Dr Jeevan B and was attended by Superintendent of Police Sudhakar Singh, ADC Debashish Baishya and various students� union leaders and mediapersons.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the citizens should not give in to rumours, while the district administration had taken various measures to prevent the spread of false/fake news. He said that special steps were taken in the market areas adjoining tea gardens of the district and every village headman had been entrusted to create awareness in their respective jurisdictions against the spread of rumours.

The DC also informed that all the mangers of tea gardens in the district were instructed to create awareness and to take prompt action if any untoward incident happens.

Lakhimpur SP Sudhakar Singh informed the meeting that police had been actively conducting awareness meetings even in remotely located villages and tea gardens. The SP appealed to the public not to share or forward any content in the social media that could spread rumours or fan the communal fire. He asked those present to inform police immediately if someone was found doing so.
