DN Chakravartty lambasts Govt over border issues

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 29 - Constant and unprovoked irritation and harassment by the hooligans from Meghalaya, Arunachal and Nagaland on the unarmed Assamese villagers for the past several decades has been described as one of the most shameful manifestations of the weakness and irresponsibility of the Assam administration by senior journalist and president of the Guwahati Senior Citizens Association, DN Chakravartty.

Reacting to the vandalism in the border areas of Assam by the rowdy perpetrators from the neighbouring states, Chakravartty said that the states along the Assam border are causing headache to the most populous and second largest State of the region, which exposed gross failure of the Assam administration in giving protection to the lives and property of its innocent border inhabitants.

Recollecting the brave action by an efficient DIG at the time when BP Chaliha was the Chief Minister, Chakravartty said that such problems could be tackled easily by any efficient and dedicated officer if he or she is allowed full freedom to meet the challenges from the miscreants across the border.

It has been observed that not many efficient and competent police and civil officers of the Assam Government are interested to work in the border areas, leaving those areas to be manned by inefficient and corrupt officials, he said and urged the Chief Minister to depute courageous and efficient officers in the troublesome border areas.
