HAILAKANDI, Sept 29 - A district-level mega screening camp for specially-abled persons was organised by the district administration in association with Childline (1098) and Health Department at SS College here on Friday.

For the first time, disability tests were conducted in the district under the initiative of DC Megh Nidhi Dahal.

Differently-abled persons turned up at the venue to avail the opportunities provided. The screening camp, acting as One Stop Centre for Specially-abled Persons consisted of doctors from Psychiatry, ENT, Orthopaedic, Paediatric and Opthalmology departments of SK Roy Civil Hospital and SMCH.

Rapid Antigen Tests for detection of novel coronavirus were conducted at the entrance of the venue. In all, 402 differently- abled persons and their attendants underwent the tests. NGOs like Ekota came forward to distribute face masks free of cost to the attendees at the camp.

Around 150 provisional disability certificates were distributed among the differently-abled persons.

The Circle Officer of Hailakandi, Tridib Roy, who was deputed as a magistrate for the camp, thanked the doctors, volunteers of Childline (1098) and DDMA for their collective effort in making the camp a hugely successful one.

Roy disclosed that the administration is planning to hold more such camps at regular intervals in the near future.
