District admin�s e-initiative for students

GUWAHATI, Sept 13 - In an effort to promote awareness among the meritorious and needy students in the district, the Kamrup Metropolitan district administration has decided to allow banks to advertise educational loan free of charge in rural areas of the district.

As per the direction of the district administration in the recently concluded District Consultative Committee meeting under the chairmanship of F Ahmed, Additional Deputy Commissioner, the banks in the first phase will be allowed to advertise educational loan free of charge in the educational institutions, preferably at HS level, and professional institutes in village area, gram panchyats and block development offices.

Allotment of advertisement locations will be done as per recommendation of the Lead District Manager, Kamrup (Metro). Instructions to the department concerned for free advertisement facilities for the banks in the urban area will be issued in the second phase.

The district administration will also provide web link addresses of all banks for educational loan applications under quick link/other link folder in the district portal, so that the students can even apply educational loan by visiting the Kamrup Metropolitan district portal.

Lauding this e-initiative of the district administration meant specially for the student community, Sudip Dhar, Lead District Manager, Kamrup Metropolitan District, while addressing a Financial Literacy Camp organised by Lead Bank Office, Kamrup (Metro) at Chandrapur in collaboration with the NRLM, extended his gratitude to Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, for his advise and direction.

The details of the Prime Minister�s social security schemes, namely Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY), Suraksha Bandhan and also on Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) were discussed in the meeting.

The meeting also discussed various aspects and procedures relating to enrolments, claims and ensuing credit camps for MUDRA loans from September 25, 2015, to October 2, 2015.

Dhar also discussed how to save, how to grow, how to save for daughter�s marriage expenses, how to face future unforeseen difficulties, etc, along with the matters relating to opening and maintenance of accounts for all the members of every household and the benefit thereof, etc. He discussed the details of the benefit of the financial inclusion and financial management, etc. He also asked all the people attending the meeting to avail the benefits of the financial inclusion programme.

The Lead District Manager also disclosed that the national School Bank Champs programme � �Paise Bachao Sapne Sajao� launched by the Indian Bank Association (IBA) and supported by the Child and Youth Finance International, is aimed at promoting social and financial education for children and youth so as to help them know how to access financial services through a bank account, which is a crucial first step in helping children and youth to become economically active society members and promoting financial inclusion.

This programme shall educate and empower children to use personal savings and social entrepreneurship as a means to fulfil their dreams. As such, every bank branch of the district will be a partner of one school. All students aged 10 years and above will soon be covered through bank accounts opened in their names.

The meeting was attended by more than 100 people, mostly women, along with the officials from NRLM, Chandrapur block, AGVB-RSETI, local bodies, etc.

It is worth mentioning here that the Kamrup district administration has brought the KCC loan under e-tracking system recently as a part of e-initiative and efforts are on for bringing the sponsorship of disposal of Weavers Credit Card (WCC) and Self-Help Group (SHG) under e-tracking system.
