SILCHAR, Sept 1 - Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri has issued clear instructions to the management and authorities of tea gardens in the district that they must declare their rates of bonus amount before September 5. Also, the distribution of the bonus should be completed by September 20, she said.
The decisions were taken on Friday during the meeting with tea garden managers regarding payment of Durga Puja bonus to the workers and garden labourers. �The stipulated timelines regarding payment of Puja bonus to the tea garden labourers as specified by the Government must be adhered to,� she maintained. She asked the management to seek police assistance during distribution of bonus.
Further, Madduri also instructed the Excise Superintendent Sunil Sinha to carry out regular raids in garden areas against illicit liquor and arrange awareness campaigns in tea garden areas as well. On the other hand, Sharadindu Bhattacharjee, secretary, Tea Association of India (TAI) at Barak Valley said that bonus will be paid to the workers as per the provisions of Bonus Act and ex-gratia will be paid through mutual agreement between workers and respective garden managements.
ADC Jessica Rose Lalsim and Assistant Labour Commissioner Rupali Pegu were also present in the meeting.
