GUWAHATI, March 19 - The Kamrup Metro district administration will form a society to identify and preserve unidentified cultural or historical landscape in the city.

The committee will also identify historically significant monuments and antique items within the Greater Guwahati region.

Greater Guwahati is dotted with a good number of historical sites, monuments of religious and cultural significance, heritage landscape, items of antique value and historical importance, among others. But unfortunately, no systematic scientific attempt has been made to identify and preserve it. A good number of archaic items are either being ignored or not preserved properly, said Dr M Angamuthu, Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup Metro.

He said a significant number of such structures are in the Greater Guwahati region and they need to be listed and registered.

The district administration also intends to form a Registry to list all the structures. The society will also undertake various heritage-related capacity building programmes for the residents, schoolchildren, and others. The administration intends to involve various stakeholders like NGOs, government departments and educational institutions for this exercise. The idea is to make an endeavour will be made to preserve, conserve various objects, landscapes or artifacts of historical significance, said Dr Angamuthu.
