Dispur MLA demands CBI probe without delay

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Dec 18 - Reiterating the demand for a thorough probe into the gruesome murder of six people at Jogdal in Sonapur under Dispur Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), the LACs MLA Atul Bora today hoped that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal would call for a CBI probe into the matter within this month.

Addressing the media here, the BJP MLA said that the involvement of a powerful political leader in the matter has already delayed the investigation into the incident, which occurred in 2009.

In the Jogdal massacre on December 12, 2009, six innocent persons Harakanta Doley, his wife Swapna Doley, their three children and his nephew were beheaded.

The murderers tried to frame a physician by throwing the bodies into the campus of his institution. Unfortunately, the investigations following the crime have been patchy so far due to political interference. Seven years have passed but no murderer has been booked and no real attempt has been made to bring the perpetrators of the crime to trial, Bora said, adding that the people in the area believe that the bloodshed was part of a wider conspiracy to set up a five star hotel in the area.

Bora, who has been raising the demand for a CBI probe into the matter, submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on Saturday, calling for a CBI probe without further delay. The Chief Minister has assured me that he would do the needful in this regard. I am hopeful that he would take up the matter of a CBI probe with the Union government within this month, he added.
