Discussion held on landslide mitigation project

GUWAHATI, June 2 - To discuss about the Guwahati Landslides Mitigation Project, a meeting was held today in the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup (Metro).

Dr Parag Phukan, professor, Gauhati University and Indrani Gogoi, Professor, Assam Engineering Institute gave presentation on landslide scenario in Guwahati, the problem faced by people in Guwahati and constitution of surveillance team for the 19 hillocks in Guwahati city respectively.

A surveillance team was formed for monitoring and creating awareness on the 19 hillocks in Guwahati. The team comprises circle officers with officer-in-charge of the local police stations as co-coordinator.

The other members will be the representative of Fire Brigade, Village Defense, NGO/club, Engineer from Soil Conservation Department, Engineers from State PWD, GMC and GMDA.

After a training programme to be held at Assam Engineering Institute, Guwahati, the NGOs and other officials will also conduct an awareness programmes in the hills area.

Today�s meeting was also attended by District Project Officer of Disaster Management of Kamrup Metro, Dr Diganta Goswami, Professor, Assam Engineering College, besides officials of other department concerned.

The meeting was presided over by Dhrubajyoti Das, ADC, Kamrup Metro.
