GUWAHATI, Dec 19 - A joint team of 1st Battalion of NDRF, Guwahati and Indian Oil Corporation today carried out a mock exercise on industrial disaster and response of chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear emergencies (CBRN) at the LPG bottling plant in North Guwahati to ensure effective response of fire brigade and employees of the bottling plant.
Industrial disaster response and mitigation exercises generate mass awareness in all section of society. Disaster response is not only the task of specialized groups but community groups, youths, working personnel and NGOs along with the civil administration also play an instrumental role for effective and accountable disaster management.
�The community should be aware of the hazardous installations and know how to combat the situation. The local community has to be informed about the response, and in case of an accident, community members should monitor the pollution levels of the industry and participate in mock exercise for evacuation,� the NDRF stated while explaining that there is little or no warning of industrial and chemical accidents and the loss incurred is very high.
Approximately 250 employees from the plant witnessed the joint mock exercise. After the exercise, a de-briefing session was done in which role of participant agencies was highly appreciated by huge gathering of local public, and civil administration.
