JORHAT, June 4 - The Director of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Jorhat Airport at Rowriah outskirts here, Krishan Kumar has reportedly got entangled in an alleged fake kidnapping case, with police naming him as one of the accused.
According to a police source here, in the case (No.1351/2019) registered at the Jorhat Police Station on Monday, under Sections 120 (B), 203, 420 and 384 of the IPC, Kumar along with Danish Ali, Mohammad Ibrahim (both residents of Baraut in Baghpat district of Uttar Pradesh) has been named as accused following lodging of an FIR against them by the in-charge of Rowriah police outpost Durlav Medhi on Sunday.
Section 120 (B) of the IPC is used against persons charged with plotting criminal conspiracy, while Section 203 is imposed upon people charged with giving false information and 420 is for cheating. Section 384 is to deal with acts of extortion.
Elaborating on the case, the source said that on Sunday the Rowriah police outpost reportedly got an information from AAI, Jorhat Airport, that two workers working in the airport presently were allegedly missing and is believed to have been kidnapped.
The missing duo Danish and Anish Ali were employed by Mohammad Ibrahim, a sub-contractor engaged by a private firm based in Kota (Rajasthan) which was carrying out works related to steel material installation at the airport, the source stated.
As police started investigating the matter, one of the duo Anish was found at the Mariani Railway Junction in the district and he denied being abducted. He reportedly told police that he and Danish had voluntarily left the work site and were heading to board a UP-bound train to return home, the source said.
Anish further said that Danish on the pretext of withdrawing cash from a nearby ATM left him and did not return, the source added.
Meanwhile, police after speaking to Ibrahim over phone, who was reportedly in UP, came to know from him that Danish rang him (Ibrahim) from his mobile phone and also messaged him informing that he was kidnapped and his abductors were demanding Rs 3 lakh ransom to release him.
The source stated that Ibrahim told police that he deposited a part of the ransom in Danish�s bank account number. The source disclosed that thereafter the �abducted� person withdrew the amount.
The source said that subsequently Danish was arrested from Furkating in neighbouring Golaghat district and allegedly spilled the beans by confessing that he stage-managed his kidnapping to earn a few extra bucks.
Danish, who was produced before a local judicial court here on Monday was remanded to three-day police custody, the source stated.
The source further said that police had asked Ibrahim to come to Jorhat at the earliest to cooperate with police in the case and Kumar too will be approached to know his side of the events.
In the meantime, another case (No. 1352/2019) was registered at the Jorhat Police Station regarding the same incident against the same three persons- Danish Ali, Mohammad Ibrabim and Krishan Kumar after another FIR was filed by Ranjita Bora and several others of Rowriah.
The FIR alleged that Kumar along with two others conspired to frame two local contractors, namely Sujit Gogoi and Tinku Gogoi by staging a fake kidnapping case.
It may be mentioned here that police after coming to know about the �abduction incident� had reportedly brought family members of Sujit Gogoi and Tinku Gogoi along with Tinku to the Rowriah police outpost for questioning in connection with the case following which there was severe protest by local residents.
The Gogois alleged that Kumar and two others hatched a conspiracy and staged the abduction to frame them for having enmity against them (Gogois).
When contacted, (AAI), Jorhat Airport Director Krishan Kumar strongly denied the charge of being involved in plotting a conspiracy and staging the kidnapping.
Kumar said that as he represented the AAI, which was the principal employer in case of engaging private firms to carry out works in the airport, had just informed the police about the incident of the two missing workers after he got a message in this regard from the airport.
Jorhat Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Nimbalkar told this newspaper that investigation was under way and necessary action would be taken as per law.
