NEW DELHI, Dec 21 � Thailand today said the country�s national carrier will start direct flights to Guwahati by next year to enhance accessibility for its businessmen to India�s north-eastern region, besides promoting tourism.
�Within next year, Thai Airways will make a first flight to Guwahati to provide more accessibility to the people and businessmen from Thailand to the north-eastern region to promote tourism,� Thailand�s Deputy Commerce Minister Alongkorn Ponlaboot said here at a Ficci function.
Thai Airways has direct flights to Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bangalore. Ponlaboot said that his country wants to take part in the development process of north-eastern states of India.
�I would like to be part of the success story of the process of development,� he said.
The Thai Minister said he would be proposing to India construct/ extend the 1360 km road connecting India-Myanmar-Thailand in next five years. � PTI
