Diphu businessman rues police inaction

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 22 Biju Singha, a victim of the rampant extortion demand in Karbi Anglong district by suspected militants, is spending sleepless nights these days.

Even after he informed the police administration about the extortion call and met senior officials, including the SP of the district several times, police has allegedly done nothing to nab the culprits. The caller had allegedly identified himself as area commander of the DHD.

Based in Diphu and a businessman by profession, Biju Singha had received a number of phone calls which he even recorded in his cell phone, but to his utter dismay, the culprits are still running scot-free.

Singha claimed that he had provided the police department with crucial inputs about the caller but so far police has failed to effect any breakthrough.

A FIR(General diary entry number 438) was lodged with the Diphu Police during the later part of April.

Singha has alleged that some unscrupulous elements as a result of business rivalry might target him and that his life could be in danger.

I am not going to bow down before any one. I have told police about those who I suspect or could be behind the incident. But so far police has not done anything to ease my trouble, Singha rued.
