Diphu BTC silver jubilee celebration ends

DIPHU, Dec 26 � The only institution of Karbi Anglong district Basic Training Centre (BTC), Diphu has stepped into a successful glorious 25 years. A gorgeous silver jubilee was celebrated in a gala manner with a three-day long programme from December 20. The silver jubilee celebration concluded peacefully here on Saturday. On the occasion, an open meeting was held at its own campus which was started with traditional dances and sons of endogenous Karbi, Dimasa and Bodo communities.

In the open meeting, presided by Tuliram Ronghang, EM i/c Education, KAAC, comprising Bidyasing Engleng, Parliamentary Secretary, Government of Assam, Mongal Sing Timung, EM, KAAC, Sarodi Saikia, Director, State Council of Educational Research & Training, Assam, Benjamin Terang, principal, Diphu Govt. Boys HS School, Sadhana Rongpipi, principal, BTC and many senior instructors along with president, secretary, Karbi Anglong Primary Teachers� Association (KAPTA) and all headmasters and headmistresses of Primary schools of the district participated.

In his speech, G Basumatary, president, KAPTA narrated various problems that primary teachers have to face in maintenance of classes in school. He said that though various innovative attempts have been adopted by the Central as well as State government for quality education, the teachers engaged in the implementation of various government schemes, have been facing problems in conducting of classes. Meanwhile, he urged government to review the engaging process of teachers in different government execution works.

On the other hand, addressing the BTC silver jubilee celebration open meeting, Saroda Saikia, Director, SCERT, Guwahati also mentioned that the engaging of primary teachers to various government executing schemes is harming the education system. Due to extra duty entrusted on the teachers, they have been facing massive problems in giving lessons to students, she added.

While pointing out on the necessity of imparting of training to teachers, she said that curriculums are getting tougher and changing day by day. Hence, to educate students with advanced techniques, imparting of training to teachers is important to create qualified teachers, Saikia added.

State Parliamentary Secretary, Bidyasing Engleng while attending the meeting as chief guest, highlighted on benefits gained by teachers from the only institution of the BTC, Diphu. Meanwhile, he assured to provide any sort of help for the institution.

In his presidential speech, Tuliram Ronghang, EM for Education Department, KAAC, expressed satisfaction on the progress of civil construction works. He mentioned that many funds sanctioned for civil construction works of schools were misused by a section of teachers. After taking stern action against them now 97.11 per cent civil construction works are in progress, he added.

He asserted that Rs 75 crore has been sanctioned by the Central government for the construction of toilets in LP and ME schools. Meanwhile, he urged teachers to engage in their duty refraining from politics.

Attending the open meeting, Mongal Sing Timung, EM, KAAC and Benjamin Terang, principal, Diphu Govt. Boys HS School also spoke on the occasion. Later, a souvenir Senykai was also released by the dignitaries.

It may be mentioned here that the institution was established on November 18, 1987 under the initiative of a dynamic leader late Samsing Hanse, the then Cabinet Minister, Government of Assam during the Chief Ministership of Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and it was inaugurated by Bidyasing Engleng, CEM, Karbi Anglong District Council (KADC).

As many as 1405 teachers have qualified under Junior Basic Training Certificate course from the Diphu BTC by conduction of regular training courses as per the guidelines curriculum framework framed by the Director, State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) since the inception of the institution.

Besides, 431 teachers enrolled in the newly introduced integration curriculum of D EL Ed, have been qualified out of 2,368 teachers.
