Dipanjali Kakoti suspended

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, Nov 16 - The ruling BJP on Monday suspended its State Executive Member Dipanjali Kakoti for allegedly physically assaulting a police officer inside Kakopathar Police Station earlier this month.

State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass suspended Kakoti from the party with immediate effect. In a statement, the State party president said that serious allegations have surfaced against Kakoti for allegedly assaulting a police officer and trying to obstruct a government servant on duty.

It added that a case against Kakoti has been lodged in the matter and the entire episode has tarnished the image of the ruling party. The BJP said that Kakoti has been suspended till the case against her is disposed off and till she is acquitted.

Kakoti had earlier this month allegedly physically assaulted sub-inspector Apurba Das inside the Kakopathar Police Station after the officer refused to set free a culprit who was brought to the station for interrogation in connection with an FIR lodged against him.

The BJP leader had engaged in an altercation with Das over the release of her driver Srikanta Phukan who was wanted by police in connection with a case of assaulting a woman.
