IMPHAL, April 24 - Former Asian Games gold medallist Ngangom Dingko Singhs family has thanked everyone, particularly the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), for arranging an air ambulance to airlift the ailing pugilist to the national capital for treatment.

Dingko Singh will be flown from Imphal in a SpiceJet air ambulance on Saturday. His wife, Ngangom Babai, said that the family wanted to thank everyone who supported them during this hour. We thank the BFI for making this arrangement, she said.

The decision to fly Dingko to Delhi was taken by SpiceJet Chairman and Managing Director Ajay Singh who is also the president of the BFI.

Dingko missed a scheduled radiation therapy a fortnight back as he could not go to New Delhi to resume his treatment for cancer due to the ongoing lockdown.

The ailing pugilist-turned-coach of the Sports Authority of India, who is currently staying at his home at Sekta village in Imphal East district, met Chief Minister N Biren Singh today.

In a tweet, Biren Singh said, State Government allows renowned boxer & Arjuna awardee Ngangom Dingko to fly to Delhi in air ambulance for availing cancer treatment at ILBS Hospital. Reqd two tests for COVID-19 also done & found negative. While extending financial assistance to the living sports legend, I wished him speedy recovery on the peoples behalf.

The 41-year-old Arjuna awardee was diagnosed with bile duct cancer, which is a form of liver cancer, during the later part of 2016.

In January 2017, a surgery was also performed on him at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) at Vasant Kunj in New Delhi. Since then he had been visiting his doctor at the ILBS for annual radiation procedure.

Local MLA Ksh Biren Singh has assured all possible help during Dingko Singhs stay in the national capital.
