DIMAPUR, Aug 5 - From now on, Dimapur Police will use bamboo barricades for multiple purposes like traffic control, road safety and temporary traffic signs to inform commuters about condition of roads. Besides bamboo barricades, the police will also use collapsible wooden barricades for these purposes.

So far, the police here have been using barricades made of plastic and iron. The use of treated bamboo as barricades for assistance in traffic management may be the first of its kind.

The idea of bamboo barricades was conceptualised by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Traffic Zone II Dimapur, T Henthai Phom. The bamboo barricades have been manufactured by Khari Design, led by Menuolhoulie Kire.

Dimapur Commissioner of Police Rothihu Tetseo officially launched the bamboo barricades for Dimapur Police at his office on Tuesday.

In his address, Tetseo said Dimapur Police have come up with the idea of using bamboo barricades as the materials are locally available in plenty, and that the cost of production and maintenance is low. Besides, it will encourage local entrepreneurs, he added.

Bamboo barricades will be used for saving human lives and regulating traffic rules, and it will stand on behalf of Dimapur Police, Tetseo said.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Commissioner of Police said Dimapur Traffic Police has so far collected Rs 7 lakh as fine by issuing challans.
