Dimapur killing case filed in Gauhati HC

IMPHAL, May 18 � A case has been filed in the Gauhati High Court in the killing of three Manipuri youths allegedly by the army after being abducted from Dimapur on March 13, 2010, sources here said.

However, the names of Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag, who has been recently appointed as the Chief of Army Staff, Brig Aswani Kumar and Maj Gen Abhay Krishna who were in the respondents list in the earlier writ petition in Manipur High Court, have now been deleted, according to the petitioner�s counsel senior advocate Khaidem Mani, who is also the president of All Manipur Bar Association. The notices in the case have been issued and the hearing on the case will be held on July 17.

The case was filed by Phijam Manikumar, elder brother of Phijam Naobi, who was among the three youths killed. Naobi along with RK Ronel and Th Prem were abducted on March 10, 2010 from Char Mile area of Dimapur and found dead on March 13, 2010.

A division bench of the Gauhati High Court comprising Justice BP Katakey and Justice Dr Justice Indira Shah issued the rule in this case to the respondents to submit their reply on July 16.

The respondents in the case were the Union Of India, Assam Government, Nagaland Government, the then Officer Commanding 3 Corps Intelligence and Surveillance Unit. The case was earlier dismissed by the High Court of Manipur on the ground of jurisdiction on May 5 this year. Advocate Khaidem Mani and Advocate Meihoubam Rakesh were the counsels of the petitioners.
