Dima Hasao�s 4-lane work to be completed soon

GUWAHATI, Sept 8 - A NHAI team headed by Raj Chakrabarty, Chief General Manager of North East region, recently reviewed the four-lane project of NHAI under implementation at Dima Hasao district, stated a press release.

The team had a meeting with Debojit Thousan, the Chief Executive Member and other concerned Executive Members at the Conference Hall of NC Hills District Council, Haflong. The Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Dima Hasao District and other senior officials of the council and district administration were also present on the occasion.

There are six projects in Dima Hasao district (length 130 km). Out of those projects, the four-lane project has been completed in an 89- km stretch and the remaining 41 km is under implementation. Construction of Nagabasti tunnel of 1,068 metre length has also been completed. The tunnel is fully operational and open to traffic. The project between Jatinga and Harangajao (26 km) was affected by severe landslides and sinking. Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi, has been engaged for remedial measures and construction works are expected to start after the rainy season.

A stretch of 31 km from Harangajao towards Silchar is currently maintained by Assam PWD and the four-lane work will start after the Forest clearance. However, the project is under process at different levels. In the meeting under review, all the issues were discussed, including existing land acquisition problem at about eight km.
