Dima Hasao witnesses 65 pc turnout

By CORRESPONDENT

HAFLONG, April 18 - Despite the 36-hour bandh called by lesser known militant groups, an estimated 65 per cent voters exercised their franchise at 242 polling stations in Dima Hasao today during the second phase of the Lok Sabha election.

Though polling started at 7 am throughout Dima Hasao district, voting was delayed in many polling stations due to malfunctioning of EVMs and lack of knowledge about EVM operations among some polling officials. Later, the EVMs were replaced.

Haflong (ST) LAC recorded 65 per cent polling by 5 pm, which is likely to increase slightly after officials from far-flung polling stations submit their reports by tomorrow morning.
