HAFLONG, Jan 9 - The Dima Hasao DCC released its election manifesto for the ensuing 12 NC Hills Autonomous Council election in the presence of president, vice president, candidates and other INC leaders at the Rajiv Bhawan here recently.
Releasing the manifesto: Agenda and Road Map, DCC president Nirmal Langthasa stated that the people were facing immense challenges in regard to sustainable development. Thousands of citizens continue to live in poverty and were denied a life of dignity. There were rising inequalities within communities. There were enormous disparities in opportunities, wealth and power. Further, unemployment was a major concern.
The BJP instead of mitigating our woes, is adding more threats such as the proposed scrapping of Article 244 (A) from the Constitution of India by the state BIP government, Sixth Schedule Amendment Bill 2015, Citizenship (Amendment) Bill-2016 and the notion of extending Panchayati Raj system to Sixth Schedule areas and silence of North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council on important political issues, he said.
For us, development has a new meaning, i.e., a harmonious economy, a pluralistic society with equitable access to participation in socio-economic and political uplift without any bias or prejudice.
Keeping in view the above issues, the INC will contest the 12th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council election slated to be held on January 19. The party is fully committed to implement the manifesto if the party is voted to power, Langthasa added.
