Dima Hasao BJP workers warn of agitation

By Correspondent

HAFLONG, Dec 17 - The Dima Hasao BJP unit will go for a strong agitation if the State BJP fails to select senior and winnable leader as the candidate for the forthcoming Assam Assembly election which is expected to be held during April or May, 2016, said several BJP leaders of the area.

It is learnt that Mishan Ranjan Das, vice-president of BJP Assam Pradesh, and Sawad Mominul Awal, president of Minority Morcha of BJP Assam Pradesh, are at Haflong on Wednesday as the party observer is getting opinion from the leaders and workers of Dima Hasao for selection of a BJP candidature for the lone 16 (ST) Haflong constituency.

But many BJP men opined that this is an eyewash as the State BJP leadership has already selected the name who has recently joined the party.

Dilicharan Naiding, who claimed to be with the BJP from 1997, said that the State BJP has taken the same path of the Congress in selecting the candidates for the forth coming Assembly election through foul play even in exchange of huge amount of money.

He also alleged that since he was not able to give a good amount of money, he would be denied the party ticket. The State BJP should not ignore the leaders who were with the BJP in bad days. Now, those who can give money are being welcomed, he added.

If the State BJP leadership fails to understand the pulse of the people, the BJP in Dima Hasao will face the same future as in Bihar, he added.

Malati Langthasa, former vice-president of the BJP Mahila Morcha said that the party ticket should be given to a person who is senior, active and who has the probability to win with the peoples verdict. She said that the State BJP leadership should be cautious enough in selecting the candidate, otherwise the people will go for strong agitation.

More than thousand BJP workers from various part of the district gathered here at Haflong circuit house in connection with the selection of name for the party ticket, but expressed concern over the State BJP leaderships attitude towards the Dima Hasao party unit.
