Dima Hasao AGP refutes reports on tie-up with BJP

By CORRESPONDENT

HAFLONG, June 30 - The AGP Dima Hasao District Committee has categorically denied reports that have appeared in a section of the media regarding the AGP-BJP alliance in the forthcoming NC Hills Autonomous Council election. While denying the news, the party stated that it stood strongly on the clarion call given by the central committee leadership in the recently-concluded partys national convention held at Khanapara, Guwahati on May 5, 2018 that AGP will contest the forthcoming NCHAC elections alone.

This was stated in a press release signed by Joypon Longmailai, central council member, and Khawvelthang Hmar, general secretary of Asom Gana Parishad, Dima Hasao District on Friday. There is no question of any pre-poll or post-poll alliance with any party, both BJP and Congress in the upcoming NCHAC election, the release added.

The AGP Dima Hasao Committee also condemned the news item that appeared in newspapers and the social media regarding some top AGP leaders contemplating joining the BJP. The AGP ridiculed such mischievous acts on the part of the BJP and the Congress, which are trying to create confusion in the minds of the public. Such acts on their part only proves that they have accepted defeat before the election seeing the support and love for the AGP in the district.

It is to be mentioned here that Debojeet Thaosen, senior AGP leader has initiated criminal defamation in the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court, Haflong against one Samir Thaosen, who had posted in the Facebook that a meeting took place in Guwahati in which senior AGP leaders like Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Atul Bora, Debojeet Thaosen, Prakanta Warisa and candidates from 28 autonomous constituencies were present and where State minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had announced that there will be an alliance between the AGP and BJP in Dima Hasao for the forthcoming council election.

It is to be stated that no such meeting was ever held and the AGP Dima Hasao has not declared or selected any candidate for any constituency so far.

Further, Debojeet Thaosen said that had the meeting really taken place, then in what capacity and status Samir Thaosen was present in the said meeting. If he was present there as one of the 28 candidates, then we would like to know from him when and where the AGP leadership has declared or selected him as a candidate and from which constituency? Debojeet wanted to know. Therefore, the statement of Samir Thaosen is false and scripted by the Congress leadership which has lost all public support.

The AGP is united to uphold the interest of the district taking into confidence all the tribes and communities of Dima Hasao and its all-round development in the coming future, the release further added.
