I will work to fulfill the dreams of my late father, who was our leader and our mentor. I have full faith that the people of Garo Hills will come out to ensure an NPP victory, he said.

The elections will be fought on the thought of our father who did everything he could for the Garo Hills region. He worked tirelessly for over 40 years for the people of Garo Hills and it is our tribute to his vision, he added.

PTI adds: The Central Election Committee of BJP today rejected a proposal by State leaders to contest in the Tura by-poll in Meghalaya in view of National Peoples Party being an ally of NDA Government.

The State BJP had forwarded names of three candidates to the Central leadership for approval but the Central committee refused to field any contestant, State BJP President Shibun Lyngdoh said.

Lyngdoh said the party is supporting the NPP candidate Conrad K Sangma.

Opposition United Democratic Party today met Conrad and senior party leaders at Baksalpara in Garo Hills expressing their open support to NPP.
