Digitisation of cable TV services

DIBRUGARH, Dec 11 - In keeping with the guidelines of the I & B Ministry regarding the digitisation of cable television services, the GTPL-V&S Cable Private Limited which caters to around 60,000 subscribers in Upper Assam will stop distributing television channels through analog cable network from December 31 midnight following mandatory digitisation of cable services.

The GTPL-V&S Cable Private Limited, located at East Chowkidinghee here is a distributor of cable television services in the districts of Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. �We are digitising our entire cable service set up with a state-of-the-art digital control room. We have already launched a digital cable television service by distributing some 160 television channels. We hope to distribute some 250 channels within a few months time,� Sanjay Kumar Deb, Managing Director of GTPL-V&S Cable Private Limited, told media persons here yesterday.

He said that all analog cable connections would be discontinued from the midnight of December 31 next as per the Government directive.

Subscribers can avail the digital cable television service through set top box only, he said.

All the subscribers have therefore been urged to use set top box in order to avail the digital cable television services. Officials from the GTPL-V&S Cable Private Limited have said that cable network operators have been provided with set top boxes at Rs 1,500 each and subscribers can collect it from them after paying an additional charge of Rs 100 for transportation.
