�Digital Payments Mela� conducted

GUWAHATI, Oct 12 - In an attempt to digitally enable and sensitise merchants and retailers, the office of Controller of Communications Accounts, Assam Circle in coordination with telecom service providers conducted a workshop �Digital Payments Mela� here today.

As part of the hundred-day Smart Cities campaign from July 1, 2018 to October 31, the Central government and the Department of Telecommunications have been taking measures to promote digital payments in smart cities in the country. Guwahati is one of the cities identified in the Smart cities Mission to be developed as a citizen-friendly, sustainable city.

The workshop was inaugurated by GK Chin, Principal Controller of Communication Accounts, Kolkata. He said all the stakeholders involved should go out of the way to make the city digitally smart.

The programme was also attended by Sandeep Govil, the Chief General Manager of BSNL; representatives from the Term Cell of the Department of Telecommunication; SBI; NPCI; Airtel; R Jio; Vodafone and telecom retailers.

It was observed that the digital penetration of the city was as low as 11 per cent and that the workshop would be a start to reach the target of 90 per cent digital enablement.

Trainers from SBI and NPCI conducted the workshop.
