GUWAHATI, Dec 15 - A digital Community Information Centre (CIC), established under SBI Gram Seva, a flagship programme of the State Bank of Indias CSR initiative, was inaugurated on Friday by Chinmoy Pathak, Block Circle Officer of Mushalpur in Baksa district.
The project is being implemented in the district across five remote villages by the Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD), an NGO working on various developmental issues.
The CIC, first-of-its kind in the district, is meant for the backward tribal communities to access government schemes, jobs, health, internet and rural banking services.
Each CIC is digitised and has a computer, wi-fi connectivity, a flat screen TV, drinking water facility, library, books, and information related to government jobs and schemes, among other things.
Every individual in the village, especially, the youth must come forward and make good use of this Community Information Centre. I would urge everyone to access information regarding government schemes, applying for government jobs through this community information centre, said Pathak.
During the inauguration programme, certificates were distributed among the women who had undergone training on tailoring and vermi-composting offered by the NGO through the project.
The only reason why women are able to come forward is because of their dedication and willingness. After availing the skill development training, they can now earn a source of income. Through the Gram Seva project, our dedicated teams of social workers are trying to encourage each and every individual in the villages to avail government benefits, said Prerna Changkakati, Executive Director of ACRD.
The SBI Gram Seva project is a flagship programme launched by the State Bank of India Foundation in 2017 across six states of India, including Assam. It focuses on integrated development of villages through the gaon panchayats.
The Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD) is a registered non-profit organisation working in the remote, backward and tribal areas of Assam since 1995. It works on issues of livelihood, disability, trafficking, education and health.
