Digambar Jain community observes �Das Lakshan�

GUWAHATI, Sept 24 - The Digambar Jain community of Guwahati observed �Das Lakshan� � the most important religious festival of the Jains. The festival that had commenced on September 14, concluded yesterday.

The last day was marked by a large procession that passed through Fancy Bazar, Machkhowa, AT Road, etc., before culminating at Mahavir Sthal, Fancy Bazar. A special workshop and the �Abhishek� of Lord Tirthankar were arranged. Many people of the Jain community observed fast ranging from ten to 32 days for purification of their souls on the occasion.

�This year a lady named Kanak Lata Pandya observed fast for 32 days, while ten persons fasted for 16 days, and 69 persons for ten days,� a press release said.

Kiran Prakash Shastri from Sanganer in Rajasthan delivered a speech on the festival while devotional singer and musician Ajit Pandya of Kuchaman city in Rajasthan presented devotional numbers. On the concluding day, all four Jain communities � Digambar Samaj, Swetambar Samaj, Sthanak Wasi and Mandir Margi � asked for forgiveness from one another for their mistakes done in the year.
