Differently abled persons body to move NHRC

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, Oct 6 - The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam will move the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) against the police atrocity during a protest of differently abled persons of the State at Dispur Last Gate here on Friday.

On Friday, differently abled persons of the State under the banner of Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam and in association with the Blind Association and Assam Blind Students Union, had staged the sit-in demonstration demanding fulfilment of their various demands, including a recruitment drive.

We staged the sit-in on Friday as the State government has not taken any step for a recruitment drive. We have also come to know that no Cabinet memorandum has so far been passed in this connection, Nripen Malakar, secretary of the Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha said.

The differently abled persons of the State have been agitating mainly for a recruitment drive to fill up 4,419 posts lying vacant in different departments under the State government for many months.

Many protesters were injured in police lathicharge, but the men in uniform did not arrange any medical treatment for them. Even higher police officials present at the spot used abusive words against us, Malakar added.

He alleged that till today all the assurances and announcements made by the State government for the welfare of differently abled persons of the State have remained only in paper; their implementation is still a far-fetched dream.

Meanwhile, the State Chief Secretary has invited the three organisations for a discussion on the issues they have raised, on October 8.
