DIBRUGARH, Aug 27 � As students continued with their protest against excess hike in fees of courses and hostel seats at Dibrugarh University, its academic affairs and administrative works remained stalled for the fourth day today.
The students staged demonstration in front of the locked office of the Vice Chancellor and later sat alongside the NH 37 on the footpaths, close to the university with mouths covered with strips of black cloth.The students, numbering around four hundred sat peacefully, reading books and newspapers for two hours and later dispersed.
Meanwhile, the teaching fraternity of the university who have been extending moral support to the agitating students, today sought the intervention of the Governor at the earliest. The teachers have called upon the Chancellor of the university to act immediately to end the deadlock for early restoration of normalcy.
The teachers also held discusions with the protesting students in the evening today to find a solution to the stalemate. The teachers while urging the students to end the agitation, assured them to discuss the matter of fee roll-back with the authorities.
The student leaders, however, sought time to discuss matters relating to boycott of classes among themselves but stood their ground on dismissal of the Vice Chancellor and on fee hike issue.
