Dibrugarh University Youth Festival ends

SIVASAGAR, Jan 23 - Dibrugarh University Youth Festival 2018 held at Sibsagar College concluded on Sunday with the open session being addressed by Dr Alok Buragohain, Vice Chancellor of Dibrugarh University as the chief guest.

Others who spoke a few words include AASU secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Dr Mantu Boro, Sports Director of Dibrugarh University and Dr Jyoti P Saikia, cultural coordinator of Dibrugarh University, as guests of honour.

Earlier, Dr Buragohain in his speech stressed on the need to provide adequate facilities to the new generation for full flowering of the latent potentialities. The upcoming youth, he added, were a very talented lot.

He also said that they require a science forum to explore new heights in modern research and technology and showcase their achievements in addition to art and culture.

Dr Buragohain added that reality is very hard and even cruel as death, and one must try to understand it and act accordingly.

Lurin Jyoti Gogoi in his speech said that the State Government does not have any specific sports and games policy which has obviously affected all the budding talents in the sports arena.

He also called upon the teaching community to offer their best services to inspire the new generation in order to make their own dreams come true through the medium of their students.

The meeting, compered jointly by Dr Dilip Das, Prof of Sibsagar College and David Hazarika, general secretary of Post Graduate Students� Union of Dibrugarh University, was attended by Dr Tridip Mahanta, Chief Coordinator of Youth Festival�18, Siva Singha Konwar, Vice Principal of Sibsagar College, Uttaran Goswami, Ashim Dutta and Manos Pratim Baruah.

Dr Prafulla Kalita, Principal of the college thanked all the stakeholders of the college, ONGC and other organisations for their generous help in making the festival a success.

Earlier on January 18, Minoo Bania, noted film and theatre personality, attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest and called upon the youths to make the best of the festive environment on the bank of the historic Joysagar Tank.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr Prafulla Kalita urged upon all to cooperate in making the mega even a success. The mile-long cultural procession prior to the inauguration ceremony was brought out by students of the participating colleges affiliated to Dibrugarh University.

Sibsagar College bagged the Best College Award with 24 prizes in different categories among 69 colleges that took part in the three- day festivities.
