Dibrugarh to host Sabha executive meet

DIBRUGARH, April 21 - The Sanghati Bhawan here, which is the regional office of the Asam Sahitya Sabha, is bracing up like never before to host for the first time ever the executive meeting of the state�s oldest and largest literary organisation � Asam Sahitya Sabha on April 30 and May 1 next.

The renovated Sanghati Bhawan, located at Chowkidinghee, which otherwise was in a dilapidated condition, presently wears a fresh look with total refurbishment and beautification of the interior as also exterior, besides the surroundings.

The regional office of the Asam Sahitya Sabha and the reception committee of the event led by Dr Santanu Lahkar are almost ready to host the two-day event, said Aditya Saikia, secretary of Asam Sahity Sabha, Dibrugarh region.

Some 300 office-bearers of the Asam Sahitya Sabha are expected to attend the two-day programme. Accommodation for the participating members will be arranged in nearby hotels, the organisers informed.

Dibrugarh SP Subashini Sankaran is expected to release the souvenir during the inaugural function. A book authored by Aditya Saikia will also be released on the occasion by Bhuban Lahkar, former faculty of B Borooah College. The inaugural speech will be delivered by Dr Santanu Lahkar, president of the reception committee. The function will be anchored by Dr Runuma Sharma, former faculty of Dibru College. Student leader-turned politician Rituparna Baruah, MLA from Lahoal LAC, will attend the inaugural function as a guest of honour, the organisers informed.
