Dibrugarh ready for LS polls

DIBRUGARH, April 4 � All preparations for ensuring smooth conduct of the general elections on April 7 in the parliamentary constituency here have been completed and all designated polling agents and presiding officers of polling stations will be handed over the required poll material from 7 am on April 6, according to election department sources here.

Altogether, 4,904 polling officers, including 1,226 presiding officers have been assigned with the task of conducting the polls in the election district here. Besides, some 31 zonal officers and some 124 sector officers (civil) and 120 sector officers (police) have been deployed for the polls here, District Election Officer Biswajit Phukan said.

The presiding officers and polling officers who will be moving for polling stations in Chabua, Dibrugarh and Lahoal Assembly constituencies have been asked to collect their election material from the campus of the Deputy Commissioner�s office, while those moving for Moran, Tingkhong, Naharkatia and Duliajan Assembly constituencies for conduct of the polls have been asked to collect their poll material from the Government Boys� Higher Secondary School campus from 7 am on April 6.

Akhtar Karim, the Election Observer (General) and Returning Officer Aruna Rajoria during a meeting of all the zonal officers, sector officers (civil) and sector officers (police) and all constituency magistrates held at the District Library here, called for strict vigilance to ensure free, fair and smooth conduct of the polls.

It needs to be mentioned here that some 309 polling stations of the parliamentary constituency fall within three Assembly constituencies � Tinsukia, Digboi and Margherita of Tinsukia district.
