GUWAHATI, Nov 25 - The Urban Development Department has dissolved the Dibrugarh Municipal Board with immediate effect and directed the Deputy Commissioner to take over the charge immediately.

The decision came in the wake of the Deputy Commissioner�s enquiry and the report of Director Municipal Administration in connection with the allegations vis-�-vis financial misappropriation and other irregularities in the Board among others.

As per the order, the reply of the DMB chairperson was not found to be satisfactory following which the decision was taken. The Government observed that the DMB has persistently failed to perform its duties and responsibilities to the satisfaction of all.

The chairperson of DMB had appeared in person and a statement on oath was taken by the Principal Secretary to the Government of Assam, Urban Development Department on November 11 where she admitted that the charges were true.

�Therefore, the Government of Assam in exercise of its power under Section 298 of the Assam Municipal Act, 1956 has dissolved the DMB with immediate effect and directed the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh to take the charge of the said Municipality Board immediately,� the order stated.
